We are the Jones Family- Corey, Julie + 8 children and 8 precious grandchildren. Corey worked in finance at AT&T, a fortune 500 company in Dallas, Texas. Julie was a homeschooling mom for 18 years and also supported families during pregnancy and childbirth as a birth doula in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for several years before moving to East Africa.
In 2016 Julie and our oldest son, Avery, went to Zimbabwe with World Bible School. They spent 3 weeks traveling the country, sharing the gospel and making friends in the towns they visited. They also learned more about the orphan crisis in Zimbabwe and across Africa. This trip changed their lives and Julie came back aching to help the people of Zimbabwe, asking God how He could use our family to make a difference in His Kingdom and in the lives of vulnerable children.
In 2017, Corey and Julie formed a 501c3 nonprofit called Tanaka, which means “we are blessed” in Shona, the tribal language of Zimbabwe. Tanaka supports a children’s home in Zimbabwe, Home of Hope. In this home are 21 children who are receiving care and love, along with security and an education.
As we continued to ask God how and where He wants us to help, doors opened for Tanaka to help children and young adults in Uganda. He has led us to a very challenging path of supporting young women who are outcasts for being violated and/or pregnant. This new work in Uganda is called Path Of Hope, where we will support single women/moms.
In the fall of 2019 our family (Corey, Julie + our 4 youngest children) moved to Mbale, Uganda, where Corey is serving at Livingstone International University. LIU is a liberal arts university that is educating the next generation of African young adults with integrity and Christian values. Julie is now supporting Suubi House, a rehabilitation for street children in Mbale as well as Path of Hope and Home of Hope.
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13
